ADVERTISING I kicked off my working life with 10 years’ experience of working in advertising, as both copywriter and art director. I’ve done scripts for radio and TV commercials and copywriting for brochures and websites; I’ve designed logos and laid out artwork; I’ve formulated concepts as an independent creative and also in numerous creative teams, and pitched to agency clients at board level.

HONESTLY, IT’S TRUE

Even more information about my work in advertising.

  1. One of the great un-sung moments of my career: my 1999 pitch to Coca Cola with Saatchi & Saatchi Account Manager Julian Howard: colonise a newly formed, free-floating antarctic ice shelf to create an independent soft drinks republic for Coca Cola. Killed by Health and Safety.

  1. As a relatively fresh graphic designer, I designed the original masthead and cover for the popular news digest / magazine, The Week, in the mid 1990s. You can visit The Week today at: http://www.theweek.co.uk Tell them I sent you.

  1. Proudest moment working independently: client and greetings card manufacturer JoBlue fired my company Carrara for producing advertising that was ‘too successful.’ They couldn’t cope with the 400% increase in orders and downscaled their advertising immediately!
